With all the turmoil currently going on at AS Roma one thing is becoming more and more clear: that Dan and Ryan Friedkin are backing current manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s position at the club.
For some time it has been clear that there has been friction between Gasperini and the sporting director Ricky Massara after two failed transfer markets where he has not brought in players that satisfy the manager or brought Roma any closer to reaching it’s objective of reaching the Champions League.
According to Leggo, the rapport between the two is at an all time low following a dip in the teams form with Roma currently in 6th place and 4 points behind Como. For this reason ahead of a huge summer for the club, which is entering it’s centennial season, Massara’s position is being questioned and could be replaced.
The front runners at the moment appear to be Cristiano Giuntoli, who Gasperini has an excellent relationship with, and Sean Sogliano of Verona whom the manager worked with during his time at Genoa.
Giuntoli would have the edge at the moment due to his history of winning the scudetto with Napoli and experience of being sporting director of a major Italian club like Juventus.
