Ryan Friedkin is expected to land in Rome by this weekend in order to sort out planning for the upcoming 2026/27 season.
There is a lot on his plate as the club is currently in a grey zone as far as planning goes. There is a huge question mark about who the sporting director will be after the ousting of Senior Advisor Claudio Ranieri. As everyone knows Ranieri was a huge advocate for Ricky Massara, the current sporting director, whom Gian Piero Gasperini recently said he has no rapport with on a sporting level,
By all accounts Massara has no intention of resigning from his post, so Ryan will have to figure out how to get out of the 3 year contract Roma signed Massara to last summer. Currently there are 5 names being heavily linked with the job in Sogliano, D’Amico, and Manna, with Paratici and Giuntoli further back.
Figuring out who will run the summer market is becoming more and more important that every day ticks closer to the June 30th deadline for FFP. It is reported that Roma are in breach between €70-80 and thus some sacrifices will need to be made.
However, Roma are counting on trying to keep as many of Gasperini’s core players as possible and hoping to patch sales together from loan players like they’ve done in previous seasons, plus pay a hefty fine.
Time is running out and we should know which direction the club is heading in soon.
