Artem Dovbyk and Roberto Piccoli Swap Idea Emerges Between Roma and Fiorentina

AS Roma are reportedly exploring a surprising market solution ahead of the summer transfer window, with the club considering a possible loan swap involving Artem Dovbyk and Roberto Piccoli.

According to reports in Italy, Roma and ACF Fiorentina are evaluating the possibility of exchanging the two strikers as both clubs look to reshape their attacking departments ahead of next season.

Dovbyk’s Difficult Roma Spell

Dovbyk’s 2025/26 season with AS Roma has been heavily impacted by injuries and inconsistency.

The Ukrainian striker has struggled to establish himself under Gian Piero Gasperini, who reportedly never fully viewed him as an ideal fit for his tactical system. After suffering a serious thigh injury earlier in the year that required surgery, Dovbyk spent much of the season sidelined.

Despite arriving from Girona FC with high expectations following his prolific spell in La Liga, the striker has struggled to make the expected impact in Serie A.

Roma are now believed to be open to evaluating solutions that could help both the player and the club move forward.

Piccoli Seen as Better Fit for Gasperini

On the other side of the proposed deal is Roberto Piccoli, currently at Fiorentina after previous spells with clubs including Atalanta BC, Cagliari Calcio, and US Lecce.

Piccoli is already well known to Gasperini from their time together at Atalanta, and Roma reportedly believe his physical style, movement, and work rate could fit the coach’s tactical demands more naturally.

Although Piccoli has also endured an inconsistent season in Florence, Roma see potential value in giving the Italian striker a fresh opportunity in a different environment.

Roma Preparing Major Changes in Attack

The possible Dovbyk-Piccoli operation reflects the broader changes expected in Roma’s attacking department this summer.

Several forwards face uncertain futures, including Paulo Dybala, Stephan El Shaarawy, and other attacking players whose contracts or roles remain unresolved.

With Gasperini preparing to reshape the squad according to his tactical vision, Roma are expected to prioritize players capable of offering intensity, mobility, and tactical flexibility.

For now, the Dovbyk-Piccoli swap remains only an idea—but it is one that is beginning to gain traction as the summer market approaches.
