Jose Mourinho reflects on Conference League Final and time at Roma

José Mourinho has once again spoken fondly about his time at AS Roma, describing the Italian capital as “the most beautiful city in the world” while reflecting on the club’s historic Conference League triumph over Feyenoord.

In an interview by SportWeek, Mourinho revisited the unforgettable night in Tirana when Nicolò Zaniolo scored the winning goal to hand Roma their first European trophy in more than six decades.

Speaking about Zaniolo ahead of the final, Mourinho revealed he already had confidence in the forward’s decisive impact against Feyenoord.

“”One thing I had predicted, and it actually happened, was Zaniolo scoring the winning goal in the Conference League final between my Roma and Feyenoord.”

The Portuguese coach also reaffirmed his emotional connection to Rome and its supporters, praising the atmosphere and passion surrounding the club during his tenure.

“The most important thing is to be where the people I love are, even in the Sahara Desert. But for me, the most beautiful city in the world is Rome.”

Mourinho guided Roma to a 1-0 victory over Feyenoord in the 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League final, with Zaniolo’s first-half strike sealing a historic triumph for the Giallorossi. The victory ended the club’s 14-year trophy drought and made Mourinho the first manager to win all major UEFA club competitions.
