Gasperini wants Fratini to take over scouting

According to reports from Il Messaggero, Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans for Roma could also involve significant changes behind the scenes, particularly within the club’s scouting structure.

One of the names gaining attention is Michele Fratini, a well-known scouting figure in Italian football recognized for his eye for emerging talent and extensive network across European and South American markets. Fratini has built a reputation over the years for identifying promising young players before their breakout and has worked closely with several clubs and intermediaries throughout Italian football. He has been named Italy’s best scout for the last two years in a row and was already linked with coming to Roma last year.

Roma are reportedly evaluating whether Fratini could play a role in modernizing the club’s recruitment strategy as part of a broader restructuring led by Gasperini. The coach is believed to want a more aggressive and data-informed scouting system capable of identifying younger, high-upside profiles suited to his intense tactical approach.

Fratini’s potential arrival would signal Roma’s intention to invest not only in the first team, but also in the club’s long-term talent identification process. With the Friedkins increasingly focused on building a sustainable sporting model, strengthening the scouting department has become a growing priority ahead of the summer rebuild.
