Manna is still first choice, but Ramon Planes emerges

By: Marco De Marinis

According to a report by Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma continue their search for a new sporting director with Giovanni Manna remaining one of the club’s preferred candidates, but a new name has emerged.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly considers Manna a fundamental part of the club’s structure, making any potential departure increasingly complicated. Roma are trying to tempt him with a massive contract, but De Laurentiis is notoriously difficult to deal with.

As a result, Roma are evaluating alternative options, with the profile of Ramon Planes now emerging as a possible candidate in the club’s ongoing sporting director search. Planes is leaving Saudi Arabia and is open to a new experience abroad especially in Italy as he already speaks the language.

His fate could be intertwined with Ricky Massara as both are currently being evaluated for Marseille’s sporting director, but are both at this stage not the front runner.

The Friedkin ownership is eager to appoint a new executive as soon as possible in order to begin planning for the summer transfer window and the club’s long-term sporting project.
