Ryan Friedkin Ignites Summer Planning

Ryan Friedkin has arrived in Rome to begin shaping Gian Piero Gasperini’s new-look Roma, with key decisions expected in the coming days regarding renewals, the sporting director role, and the club’s summer transfer strategy.

As Gazzetta dello Sport reports, Dybala and Pellegrini, the two players who until yesterday had no future, are now starting to imagine their stay. It was the vice-president, shocked by Paulo’s outburst after Parma-Roma (“I haven’t spoken to anyone, it could be my last derby”), who kicked things off.

Until Ryan arrived no one had given sporting director Massara the mandate to act. This is a clear sign of how this club lacks several key figures: a general manager, but also a technical director, and certainly a CEO who can act as the owner’s representative when they’re not present.

Dybala earns €8 million net, Pellegrini €6.5 million plus bonuses, and with them, Celik (€2.5 million) and El Shaarawy (€3.5 million) are also nearing the end of their contracts. The total cost for the four exceeds €35 million gross, too much for a club that pays around €140 million in salaries and would like to get below €100 million.

It appears the club is willing to offer a two-year contract extension for Paulo at a salary more than halved, starting from a fixed base of €2.5-€3 million, a contract extension for Pellegrini with a 60% pay cut, and a slight raise—of half a million at most—for Celik, whose agent was asking for a salary increase from €2.5 to €4 million.

The one player who looks more on the outs than the others is Stephan El Sharaawy.
