Stephan El Shaarawy announces he’s leaving Roma

After a decade of service at Roma, Stephan El Shaarawy has announced that this will be his last season at Roma. He took to his Instagram to write his goodbye to the fans:

“There are places that become home without you even realizing it. And then, one day, you understand it was much more than that… it was people, emotions, life.

For me, these 10 years have been exactly that.

I arrived here with dreams, ambition, and a huge desire to prove myself. I leave with a full heart. Full of memories, shared battles, incredible joys, but also difficult moments that helped me grow both on and off the pitch.

In this environment, I found genuine affection, sincere respect, and a sense of belonging that goes beyond football. I always tried to honor this shirt in the most authentic way possible, giving everything I had every single day, never holding back.

Together, we wrote important chapters, experiencing emotions that will remain unforgettable — like winning an international trophy that brought us even closer and that I will always carry with me.

As time passed, the responsibilities grew, and wearing the captain’s armband became much more than just a role: it was an immense honor and one of the greatest signs of trust I could ever receive. A privilege I will always carry in my heart.

Like every story, this one also had a beginning, and today it is approaching its end. It has been a particular season, at times difficult, but that is part of football and it does not change who I am or everything I have always given.

The derby will be my final home match at the Olimpico. And there is no better match than this one to put onto the pitch everything I have always tried to represent in this game: commitment, respect, and dedication for this shirt — but above all, my gratitude.

Thank you to the club, for giving me the opportunity to grow as a man and as a footballer.

Thank you to my teammates, with whom I shared every emotion.

Thank you to the staff, for the work and support every single day.

And a special thank you to you supporters… because you always made me feel like one of you.

I may be leaving, but a part of me will always remain here. Because certain stories never truly end — they simply change form.

I will forever be grateful to this club and especially to this city, which gave me so much.

Thank you, Roma.”
