Roma have been hit by a fresh injury scare ahead of the Derby della Capitale after Manu Koné reportedly stopped training during the team’s final session before facing Lazio.
According to reports from Italy, the French midfielder experienced physical discomfort during the rifinitura and will now be evaluated ahead of kickoff, putting his availability for the derby at serious risk. Koné has been one of Gian Piero Gasperini’s most important players this season, particularly in Roma’s recent push toward the Champions League places.
The timing could hardly be worse for Roma, who desperately need all 3 points. Koné himself has struggled with muscular problems during the campaign and previously missed important matches earlier in the year.
If the 24-year-old is unavailable, Gasperini may turn to Bryan Cristante or Niccolò Pisilli to reshape the midfield against Lazio. Reports earlier this week suggested Pisilli was already pushing for a starting spot due to tactical considerations.
Koné’s possible absence would represent a significant blow considering his energy, ball-winning ability, and importance in transition play. Supporters have repeatedly highlighted his impact throughout the season, especially during Roma’s recent resurgence in the Champions League race.
