D’Amico Remains Roma’s Top Choice for Sporting Director, but Friedkin Has Backup Plan

Tony D’Amico remains the leading candidate to become Roma’s next sporting director as the club continues planning for the summer alongside Gian Piero Gasperini. According to reports from Il Romanista, the current Atalanta executive is still highly appreciated at Trigoria and remains one of the profiles most aligned with Gasperini’s vision.

However, Roma are continuing to evaluate alternative options as the Friedkin ownership looks to finalize the club’s sporting structure ahead of the transfer window. Matteo Tognozzi remains one of the strongest alternative candidates, while Fabio Paratici and Ramon Planes have also been discussed internally in recent weeks.

Tognozzi is said to be in Milan taking meetings at the moment. There’s been no direct contact from Roma, but it’s not being ruled out that there’s been informal surveys from the club. Tognozzi is the favourite to take over at Juventus if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Ryan Friedkin has been heavily involved in the process during his stay in Rome, holding meetings with Gasperini and working on several key decisions regarding renewals, transfers, and the club’s long-term direction.

With Frederic Massara expected to depart at the end of the season, Roma hope to appoint a new sporting director quickly in order to begin shaping the squad for Gasperini’s second year in charge
