Former Roma coach Fabio Capello shared a revealing story about the early careers of Alberto Aquilani and Daniele De Rossi, admitting that he originally believed Aquilani was technically superior — before De Rossi completely changed his mind.
Speaking about the two Roma academy products, Capello explained:
” I was convinced that Aquilani was better than De Rossi, because he was technically superior“
However, their behavior on their debuts revealed significant differences in character and mentality.
Capello further explained that how he gave them their debuts against Triestina the separation between the two became clear
“De Rossi was ready, Aquilani wasn’t”
The former Roma manager has repeatedly praised De Rossi’s mentality over the years, even describing him as “born ready” both as a player and now as a coach.
