A historical night for Roma ended with a 2-0 victory over Verona that sent the Giallorossi back to the Champions League in nearly a decade.
Afterwards Gianluca Mancini spoke to the press:
The mood in the locker room?
“There’s a lot of euphoria; it’s a team victory. We said it to each other when they thought we were done for. The coach said that if we had a winning streak, we could do it. It was tough against Verona, we’re very happy.”
Great performance by you, you’re a leader and someone Gasperini called crucial for the locker room too…
“We’ve been through a tough period, but like all teams. Believing in the coach has led us to this final push. The group is fantastic, and some top players have arrived. Those of us who have been here for a long time have heard a lot, but the love for the fans has always come before us. We’ve achieved something unique; few believed we could.”
Your feelings, your emotions?
“They’re wonderful feelings, I feel like crying, but I won’t. Eleven games under a booking, but every game was important. I didn’t want to and couldn’t miss these matches. We’ve heard the label (‘sixth-place gang’) , but these are guys who reached the Europa League final, we came within a point of the Champions League. This year’s feelings have always been super positive, and in the long run, it pays off. The win in Parma was the best of the season, something clicked there, it was the right year. Last Sunday I did something absurd. I’m happy, Gasp gave us his ideas and we followed him from the start, reaching a great goal.”
