Neil Al Aynaoui reflects on Verona victory and his season

Neil Al Aynaoui came off the bench yesterday against Verona and made an instant impact in the massive 2-0 victory.

He spoke to ReteSport and reflected on the game and his season:

Did you understand what happened yesterday? How many years has it been since the Champions League was played here in Rome?
“Last night was an incredible night for us, for all the fans. We even celebrated after the match at the airport, where we found an incredible atmosphere. I think this is the level Roma should be at.”

What’s the secret of this Roma?
“Our secret has always been to think as a team, to stay united, at all times, from the first to the last day.”

How was your season?
“This year has been very good for me at times, less so at others. The goal was to reach the Champions League, I’ve wanted that since the beginning of my time here. I’ve given my all to help the team.”

What were the biggest challenges, if any, in Gasperini’s system?
“It’s definitely a different style of football than what I’ve known before. It’s physically demanding and requires enormous concentration, but once you get into the coach’s mood, it becomes very difficult for opponents to deal with us.”

There’s also been a lot of talk about your future, about the interest of major clubs. Many Roma fans see you as a starting point for the Roma of the future. Would you like to reassure them about your permanence?
“Certainly, I’m very happy here in Rome, even more so for this final part of the season. I’m very happy here in Rome.”

Gasperini has always spoken of your professionalism and commitment. How’s your relationship with the coach?
“Very good. I’m very lucky to be here in Rome. My relationship with the manager is excellent.”

Did you call your dad and tell him you’re becoming more important than him in the sport?
“No, I still have a lot of work to do (laughs).”
