Gian Piero Gasperini had already attempted to sign Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United last winter, but the move ultimately failed. However, according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Roma are now set to renew their interest in the player this year.
In England, Zirkzee has struggled for playing time, featuring only sparingly and mostly as a late substitute. Roma, meanwhile, are seeking attacking reinforcements as they prepare for next season, which will mark their return to the Champions League after seven years.
In January, a transfer appeared close to completion after the former Bologna forward had reportedly given his approval, but the deal collapsed, leaving him in Manchester. Since managerial changes at United, Zirkzee has continued to struggle for minutes, making just one start and totaling 127 minutes across 10 appearances—an average of 12.7 minutes per game.
