Rosella Sensi has spoken about Roma’s return to the Champions League, Gasperini, the Friedkins, and Roma’s centennial season:
Can you tell us how excited you are about Roma’s return to the Champions League after seven years?
” How can you not be happy? Roma finished third despite a lot of skepticism surrounding the team, perhaps not from Roma fans, but certainly from outside. And yet we did it. I want to congratulate the team, the club, and especially Mr. Gasperini, who, in my opinion, besides being a great coach, has also become a great Roma fan .”
Did you expect Roma to return to the Champions League? At one point, it seemed almost impossible…
” I hoped so, and deep down, I expected it. Certain results come especially when there’s a united group, a great coach, and a committed club. The conditions were all there, and then obviously the games have to be played and won on the pitch .”
Have you seen the Friedkin family’s management attempt to recreate a Roman spirit around the team?
“With the arrival of the Friedkin family, there’s certainly been a change of direction, and it’s evident to everyone. I think they’ve worked hard to recreate enthusiasm and a sense of belonging around Roma, and for that I congratulate them.”
You’ve known many great coaches. What’s your opinion of Gasperini’s communication skills?
“At first, there was a lot of skepticism about Gasperini’s potential relationship with the Roman community, partly because of his past. However, I think he’s adapted very quickly. I was struck by how easily he’s embraced the Roman spirit, quickly establishing a connection not only with the team, but also with the entire city.”
Next season will be the club’s centenary season: do you think Roma can aim for the Scudetto?
” This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the 2001 Scudetto, so it’s inevitable that certain memories will resurface. We need to have faith in the club, see how the team develops, and, above all, always stay close to Roma. Enthusiasm and unity can make the difference .”
