Before focusing on finding a backup for Malen, Roma have other priorities to address.
According to Il Messaggero, the club will first look to strengthen the group of attacking midfielders playing behind the Dutch forward before turning its attention to signing a striker—one who is unlikely to seriously challenge the former Aston Villa player for a starting spot.
During the summer, Roma will look for buyers for Artem Dovbyk, while Vaz could be sent out on loan. If that happens, the club will try to sign a striker with a similar profile and playing style to Malen.
Gianluca Scamacca is keen on a return to the capital, but Atalanta’s €25 million valuation has put negotiations on hold for the time being. Roma have also been offered Andrea Pinamonti, although discussions regarding him have been postponed.
For sporting director Tony D’Amico, it promises to be a long and busy transfer window.
