The final stage of the approval process for AS Roma’s new stadium project can now finally begin. The “home” the club has dreamed of since the era of Dino Viola—who once nearly built a stadium in the Magliana area—and later pursued by Rosella Sensi and James Pallotta, could now truly become a reality.
Next week will mark the start of the final and most important phase: the beginning of the decisive Services Conference procedure and the PAUR (Regional Single Authorisation). These steps are required to officially grant construction approval. The process will take place under the supervision of the Special Commissioner for UEFA Euro 2032, Massimo Sessa, in line with the agreement approved by both the city of Rome and the Lazio Region.
The agreement between the different parties took longer than expected because of differing views that had to be reconciled. In the end, however, it has given Commissioner Sessa the authority to move forward.
Now everything depends on moving quickly to meet UEFA’s deadline, which requires approval of the project by the end of July. However, Minister Andrea Abodi has clarified that the deadline is not strictly binding.
The goal is to finish even earlier—possibly by mid-July—cutting the timeline in half for this stage. To achieve this, the commissioner will need full cooperation from all parties involved. The national government is reportedly very supportive and wants the process to be completed successfully.
There may still be legal challenges ahead, but overall, the path now appears much smoother and more straightforward.
