Celik makes a pact with Gasperini. Declines Galatasaray offer

Gian Piero Gasperini wants Roma to keep the main group of players together and build on the confidence gained from last season. Because of that, Zeki Celik is looking more and more likely to stay at the club, despite interest from teams in Turkey.

One of the first issues new sporting director Tony D’Amico will deal with when he officially starts work at Trigoria is Celik’s contract extension. Roma see the Turkish right-back as an important part of the squad that qualified for the Champions League, along with Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

According to Il Corriere della Sera, Galatasaray have tried to sign Celik, but the defender has made it clear that he wants to stay in Rome. His decision was strengthened by Gasperini’s confidence in him, as the coach specifically asked the club to keep him.

The main obstacle is his salary. There is currently a gap of about €600,000 per year between what Roma are offering and what the player is asking for. However, both sides believe they can reach an agreement in the coming weeks, which is why there is growing optimism at Trigoria.

For Celik, the priority is to honor the commitment he made to Gasperini and continue his career with Roma.
