El Shaarawy Weighing Future as Genoa Explore Return

Stephan El Shaarawy is approaching a crossroads in his career following the conclusion of his long spell with Roma, and a return to one of his former clubs could be on the cards.

According to reporting from Gianluca Di Marzio, Genoa have made contact with the 33-year-old winger as they explore the possibility of bringing him back to the club where he developed as a player and made his Serie A debut. A move would represent a homecoming for El Shaarawy, who emerged from Genoa’s youth system before establishing himself in Italy’s top flight.

Genoa are not the only Italian side interested in the former Italy international. Venezia are also pursuing the winger and are expected to hold discussions this week as they look to strengthen their squad with an experienced attacking option.

Among domestic opportunities, a return to Genoa is viewed as one of the most realistic scenarios. The club’s interest is strengthened by El Shaarawy’s strong relationship with Daniele De Rossi, who shared a dressing room with him at Roma before later coaching him in the capital.

However, the player’s future may ultimately lie outside Italy. Di Marzio reports that El Shaarawy has also attracted interest from abroad, with clubs from Dubai and Saudi Arabia monitoring his situation and prepared to present alternative opportunities.

As El Shaarawy evaluates his next move, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive in determining whether his career continues in Serie A or takes him to a new challenge overseas.
