AS Roma have benefited financially from the transfer of former midfielder Gonzalo Villar to Dinamo Zagreb, which was completed on July 1, 2025.
The Giallorossi had negotiated a 30% sell-on clause when Villar departed the club, allowing Roma to receive a portion of any future transfer fee involving the Spanish midfielder. According to AS Roma Data as a result of his move to the Croatian champions, Roma collected €900,000.
The payment represents a welcome boost for the club, demonstrating the value of including sell-on clauses in player transactions. Although Villar is no longer part of Roma’s squad, the capital gains generated by his transfer continue to provide financial returns for the Serie A side.
Roma’s management has increasingly utilized similar clauses in recent years as part of a broader strategy to maximize long-term value from outgoing transfers.
