Donyell Malen started for the Netherlands in their 1-0 loss to Algeria. There’s been a bit of discussion over the player after he missed a golden opportunity to score.
Here’s his words after the game:
On the game against Algeria:
“I just have to give my all. Both here and at club level, that’s really the only thing I’m focused on. But at Roma I play in attack — that’s my position, that’s where I prefer to play. That’s my position. I’m not focused exclusively on that, but at club level I play up front, so yes…”
On Summerville:
“He’s a dangerous attacker. He produced some good dribbles, and we managed to break through a couple of times. The pass he played toward me was slightly overhit, but that’s the kind of play he’s capable of.”
On the World Cup:
“The tournament is still a long way off, so we shouldn’t go to New York completely demoralized. We have to stay positive and learn from games like this. We know what we’re capable of.”
