The arrival of Tony D’Amico at Roma as sporting director is now awaiting only the official announcement.
Following the recommendations of Gian Piero Gasperini, the Giallorossi club has identified the current Atalanta executive as the ideal figure to lead the club’s transfer-market strategy.
D’Amico is expected to succeed Frederic Massara in the coming days, but the final details regarding his departure from Atalanta must first be resolved.
According to Sky Sport, the Friedkin ownership group is unwilling to pay any compensation to facilitate the executive’s move.
The contractual situation
Although Atalanta has already officially bid farewell to D’Amico and has entrusted the role to Cristiano Giuntoli, who is already working in his new position, the Abruzzo-born sporting director is still contractually tied to the Bergamo club.
For this reason, the official announcement of his move to Roma may take a few more days.
Once he arrives at Trigoria, D’Amico will be tasked with handling several priority issues.
These include negotiating contract renewals for players whose deals are nearing expiration, such as Paulo Dybala, Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Zeki Çelik, as well as managing outgoing transfers that must be completed by June 30 in order for Roma to comply with the financial parameters imposed by UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
