A romantic reunion between Roma and Mohamed Salah appears unlikely to materialise this summer.
According to Il Romanista, the Egyptian star was recently offered to the Giallorossi through his representatives, sparking speculation about a sensational return to the club where he established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents. Roma reportedly evaluated the opportunity but ultimately decided not to pursue the move.
The decision is understood to be linked to the club’s long-term transfer strategy. Under the direction of sporting director Tony D’Amico and head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, Roma are prioritising younger profiles capable of contributing immediately while also representing long-term investments.
Financial considerations also played a significant role. Despite Salah’s unquestionable quality and status as one of world football’s elite forwards, the overall cost of a potential deal was considered incompatible with the club’s current sporting and economic plans.
Salah remains a hugely popular figure among Roma supporters. During his two seasons in the capital between 2015 and 2017, he scored 34 goals and became one of the most influential players in Serie A before earning his move to the Premier League.
While the prospect of bringing back a club icon undoubtedly carried emotional appeal, Roma have chosen to focus their efforts on different targets as they reshape the squad ahead of the new season.
Salah, who celebrates his 34th birthday today, is currently focused on representing Egypt at the World Cup. Meanwhile, Roma will continue searching for the attacking reinforcements identified as priorities for Gasperini’s project.
