The Argentine winger is being offered across Europe after cooling interest from England’s elite — and Roma’s return to the Champions League makes them a genuine option
A new name has entered Roma’s summer orbit, and it is one that would have seemed far-fetched just a few months ago.
According to Tele Radio Stereo, Alex Garnacho is now being actively offered to clubs outside of England, after the Argentine winger came to terms with a difficult reality: the top clubs in the Premier League have developed too many reservations about him to make a move viable.
The response? Open up to Europe.
A Condition That Narrows the Field
Garnacho has been clear about what he wants: Champions League football. It is a non-negotiable. And that single condition, more than any other factor, has shaped the map of his possible destinations — eliminating some suitors and elevating others.
In Italy, the waters have been tested with both Juventus and Milan. Neither, however, will be competing in the Champions League next season. That, according to Tele Radio Stereo, effectively rules them out of the running. Roma, by contrast, are back on Europe’s biggest stage — and that changes everything.
The Financial Structure
The deal being proposed would take the form of an onerous loan with a buyout clause attached, though the figures involved are far from modest. The buy option would need to reach at least €35 million for the operation to satisfy all parties. For Roma, the question is straightforward: is the investment sustainable? If the club’s hierarchy concludes that it is, the pathway to a deal is there.
Roma’s New Pulling Power
Perhaps the most significant element of this story is what it says about Roma as a club in 2025. Tele Radio Stereo make the point explicitly: after years on the periphery of European football’s elite conversation, Roma are attractive again. The return to the Champions League has restored a magnetism that the club had been missing for a long time.
Garnacho himself is evidence of that shift. A player of his profile — young, explosive, internationally recognised — exploring Roma as a genuine option would simply not have been the case in recent seasons. The Champions League badge changes the conversation entirely, and the Giallorossi are beginning to understand the leverage it gives them in the market.
Whether they choose to use it on Garnacho remains to be seen. But for the first time in a long while, the choice is theirs to make.
