Deportivo Dreaming of Angeliño Return as Player Open to Pay Cut

Fresh off their promotion back to La Liga after eight years away, Deportivo La Coruña are exploring ambitious options to strengthen their squad, with Roma full-back Angeliño emerging as one of the club’s dream targets.

The Spaniard, who came through Deportivo’s academy before joining Manchester City as a teenager, is reportedly eager to return to Galicia. According to reports in Spain, Angeliño is even willing to make a significant financial sacrifice to help facilitate the move, a factor that could transform what once seemed an unrealistic operation into a genuine possibility.

The biggest obstacle has always been his salary. Angeliño currently earns far more at Roma than a newly promoted side can typically afford. Capology estimates his gross annual salary at around €3.7 million, a figure well beyond Deportivo’s usual wage structure.

However, the player’s willingness to accept a substantial pay cut could open the door to negotiations. Deportivo are now studying ways to make the deal financially viable.

Roma, for their part, are unlikely to let the defender leave for free. The Giallorossi paid just over €5 million to sign him and he still has two years remaining on his contract. While reports suggest his market value is currently around €4.5 million, Roma could be willing to negotiate given the player’s reduced role and the amortization already accounted for on their books.

A loan deal with an option to buy also remains a realistic possibility. Such a formula would reduce the financial risk for Deportivo, allow Roma to free up space in the squad, and give Angeliño the opportunity to return home and regain a starring role in La Liga.
