Çelik Exits World Cup Early as Turkey Fall Short, Roma Renewal Talks Continue

Zeki Çelik’s Turkey ended their World Cup campaign with a final victory over hosts United States, but it was not enough to progress to the knockout stages. Despite beating Mauricio Pochettino’s side, Turkey’s earlier defeats against Australia and Paraguay proved decisive, leaving them bottom of the group standings and eliminating them from the competition.

Following the exit, Çelik addressed fans on Instagram with a message of gratitude and apology. “Unfortunately, the tournament didn’t go the way we wanted. However, in our last match, we did our best to give you at least a victory. We thank everyone who supported us in every circumstance. We will continue to work hard for a better future,” the Roma full-back wrote, reflecting on a disappointing campaign.

With international duty now over, Çelik is set for a short break before returning to club duties. His agents are currently in talks with Roma over a contract renewal, with a final agreement expected in the coming weeks. Gian Piero Gasperini is expected to welcome him back to Trigoria at the end of July as preparations for the new season continue.
