Roma have received a potential boost in their pursuit of Matteo Ruggeri as they continue searching for reinforcements on the left flank. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Atlético Madrid have completed the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around €20 million, a move that could reshape the Spanish club’s options at left-back.
Grimaldo’s arrival may reduce Ruggeri’s chances of being a regular starter despite the Italian’s impressive season, in which he made 47 appearances. Roma remain keen on the former Atalanta wing-back, with Gian Piero Gasperini a strong admirer after overseeing his development in Bergamo. A reunion in the capital would also offer Ruggeri the chance to play a key role in Roma’s Champions League campaign.
Financial Fair Play restrictions continue to influence Roma’s transfer plans, but the Ruggeri deal now appears more achievable than it did just days ago. Should the move materialize, it would also allow Wesley to return to his preferred role on the right flank, giving Gasperini greater balance and flexibility across both wings.
