Roma could face a quieter race for Manu Koné than expected, with one of the midfielder’s reported Premier League admirers shifting its focus to another target.
Chelsea had been linked with the French international in recent weeks, but the London club has now turned its attention to Granit Xhaka, significantly cooling speculation surrounding a move for the Roma midfielder.
According to reports, Chelsea have already reached an agreement with Xhaka and opened talks with Sunderland, the Swiss international’s current club, in an effort to complete the transfer. As a result, any move for Koné appears to have been put on hold.
Koné remains one of the most discussed names in Roma’s summer transfer plans, but interest from the Premier League is no longer as intense as it seemed only a few weeks ago.
While Chelsea’s attention has shifted elsewhere, Roma continue to value the French midfielder highly and will only consider offers that meet the club’s asking price. With the Blues seemingly out of the picture for now, Atlético Madrid remain among the clubs most closely monitoring Koné’s situation.
