Donyell Malen: “We Want to Win Something With Roma”

Roma forward Donyell Malen has set ambitious goals for next season, insisting the Giallorossi are targeting silverware after securing a return to the Champions League.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport while away with the Netherlands at the World Cup, Malen reflected on both his international campaign and his impressive first season in the Italian capital.

“Everything is going well,” Malen said of the Netherlands’ tournament. “We won our group, played good football and now we’re preparing for the knockout stage. I see a team that is improving and very motivated.”

The Dutch international also acknowledged the challenge awaiting the Oranje against Morocco but expressed confidence.

“They’re a difficult opponent, but every team is when the level rises. We’ll be ready, just as we have been so far.”

Looking back on his first season with Roma, Malen credited the team rather than his individual performances after exceeding expectations in front of goal.

“I arrived full of enthusiasm and motivation. Fortunately, everything went well, but that was down to Roma, not me. If we hadn’t all pulled in the same direction, we wouldn’t have achieved our goal.”

Asked whether simply qualifying for the Champions League would be enough next season, Malen made Roma’s ambitions clear.

“Of course not. We want to win something. That’s our goal.”
