Albert Gudmundsson’s future could lie away from Fiorentina, with Roma once again monitoring the Icelandic international ahead of a potential summer move.
According to La Nazione, Gudmundsson’s spell in Florence is nearing its end after a disappointing campaign. The 1997-born attacker struggled with four separate muscle injuries last season, limiting both his availability and his consistency. He also failed to establish himself as the leader Fiorentina had hoped for when they handed him the club’s iconic No. 10 shirt.
A change in management has further complicated his situation. Fabio Grosso’s preferred 4-3-3 system is not considered an ideal fit for Gudmundsson, who is at his best operating as an attacking midfielder or second striker. As a result, the player’s entourage is already working to find him a new destination this summer.
Fiorentina are reportedly seeking between €16 million and €20 million to part ways with the Icelandic playmaker, hoping to minimize the financial impact of his departure.
Roma have made initial enquiries over the player’s availability but are not alone. Atalanta are also interested, while Juventus have gathered information without making a concrete move. Abroad, both Bournemouth and Aston Villa have reportedly made enquiries, with the Premier League emerging as a realistic option for Gudmundsson’s next step.
As Roma continue evaluating attacking reinforcements for Gian Piero Gasperini, Gudmundsson remains one of several creative profiles under consideration as the transfer market gathers pace.
