Massimo Moratti Reveals Failed Attempt to Sign Francesco Totti From Roma

Former Inter president Massimo Moratti has revealed that he once tried to sign Roma icon Francesco Totti, but admitted the transfer was never a realistic possibility due to the Giallorossi’s firm stance.

Speaking to SoccerMagazine, Moratti recalled approaching Roma about Totti, only for then-president Franco Sensi to refuse any chance of selling the club’s legendary captain.

“I asked for him, and Sensi very bravely kept him in the end,” Moratti said. “So I have to say that it’s not a missed opportunity, but rather a possibility that wasn’t there. Roma wouldn’t sell him, so I can’t consider it a missed opportunity.”

Moratti’s comments hark back to an era when Roma and Inter were fierce rivals in the race for Serie A titles and domestic trophies, with the Nerazzurri eventually winning the 2010 Scudetto under José Mourinho.

His remarks serve as another reminder of Roma’s determination to keep Totti in the Eternal City, a decision that allowed the legendary No. 10 to spend his entire career in the Giallorossi shirt and become one of football’s greatest one-club icons.
