Neil El Aynaoui has been named in Morocco’s starting lineup for their World Cup round-of-16 match against Canada.
The Roma midfielder has become a key figure in Tarik Ouahbi’s midfield and will once again start from the first minute as Morocco chase a place in the quarter-finals.
The match is in Houston where Morocco will face a Canada side led by Jonathan David.
El Aynaoui’s continued role underlines his growing importance on the international stage.
After a strong tournament so far, the 2001-born midfielder remains one of Morocco’s certainties in the middle of the pitch.
Anass Salah-Eddine, meanwhile, starts on the bench.
The wing-back has returned to Roma following PSV’s decision not to activate his purchase option at the end of the season, though his future still appears likely to be away from the capital.
For Roma, the match offers another opportunity to monitor two players whose situations remain very different: El Aynaoui as a rising asset, and Salah-Eddine as a player still searching for clarity over his next move.
