Roma are closing in on one of the most important renewals of the summer.
According to Filippo Biafora of Il Tempo, Paulo Dybala and Roma are ready to continue together, with the Argentine expected to sign a new deal in the coming days. The relationship, which began in July 2022, is now set to move into a new phase after weeks of negotiations.
Talks were started by Ryan Friedkin in mid-May following a request from Gian Piero Gasperini, before accelerating in recent days through continuous contact between sporting director Tony D’Amico and Dybala’s agent, Carlos Novel.
An economic agreement has now been reached on a one-year contract, likely with an option. Dybala will significantly reduce his salary after earning around €8 million net plus bonuses last season. The final detail still being resolved concerns an old pending bonus, but once that is settled, the signature is expected early next week.
Roma are also close to finalizing Zeki Celik’s renewal. The Turkish defender, like Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini, has technically been out of contract since the start of July, but an agreement in principle with his agent has already been in place for weeks. An official announcement is expected soon.
The situation around Pellegrini requires more work. A first meeting has already taken place with his agent, Giampiero Pocetta, and another will be needed. Still, there is confidence around the talks, with Roma aiming to satisfy Gasperini’s desire to keep the midfielder in the squad.
Away from the first team, Roma have also resolved the youth-sector issue. As expected, Massimo Margiotta is set to arrive after previously working with D’Amico at Verona.
Roma’s summer schedule has also been finalized. The squad will gather on July 13, followed by friendlies against the Primavera, Roma City and Trastevere at Trigoria. The team will then travel to Cannes before heading to Wales, where they will face Cardiff, Newport County and Brighton. The final pre-season test will come on August 15 away to Borussia Dortmund.
