Francesco Rocca Clarifies Position on Roma’s Pietralata Stadium Project

Lazio Region President Francesco Rocca has clarified his position on Roma’s proposed new stadium in Pietralata following his comments from yesterday.

In an official note, Rocca firmly denied that the Region intends to obstruct the project.

“I have read some imaginative reconstructions of what I said yesterday,” Rocca stated. “I want to underline, first of all, that the choice of Pietralata is not in question, even if Tor Vergata would have been preferable.”

Rocca explained that his comments were meant to reassure residents in the area, as well as patients and healthcare workers at the nearby Pertini Hospital. The Region, he said, wants to support the process so the stadium improves that part of the city rather than creating problems for it.

“In the Conference of Services, we will do our part so that the new work is the best possible, within the established timeframe,” Rocca added. “Our will is to accompany the project and certainly not to block it.”

The Lazio Region president also reaffirmed that Roma’s new stadium is considered a project of public interest and confirmed the Region’s willingness to collaborate with the Government commissioner and Roma Capitale.

For Roma, Rocca’s clarification is significant: while acoustic protection, traffic and hospital access remain key issues, the Region is not positioning itself against the Pietralata project.
