Matias Soulé’s future remains one of the key questions of Roma’s summer transfer market.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sunderland have made an enquiry with Roma to understand the conditions of a possible deal for the Argentine winger. The link is a familiar one, as former Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi is now working with the English club and knows Soulé well.
Sunderland are reportedly preparing an offer, while Roma value Soulé between €35 million and €40 million. The Premier League could also appeal to the player, who remains one of the most talented young attackers in the Giallorossi squad.
From Roma’s perspective, a sale at those figures would provide important financial room under the Settlement Agreement and could help fund incoming moves in the market.
For now, it remains only an enquiry, but Sunderland are ready to take the next step. Roma are waiting to see whether a concrete offer arrives, aware that Soulé’s future could become a major storyline if the English side decide to move seriously.
Update: July 8, 2026
According to Alfredo Pedullà, Matias Soulé has been linked with Sunderland, but the situation has not yet developed into a real negotiation.
For now, there has only been a tentative inquiry from the English club, while the Argentine is not considering leaving Roma at this stage of the transfer window.
The scenario could change later in the summer, especially if the Giallorossi were to sign another high-level player in his position, but at the moment Soulé’s future remains open rather than advanced toward an exit.
