Roma are being forced to look at alternative attacking targets after missing out on their primary objective for the wing.
The problem, however, remains the same: cost. If Roma struggled to close a deal for their main target because of the transfer fee, then signing another high-level winger will not be simple. The alternatives exist, but they are still expensive.
One name discussed in recent weeks is Crysencio Summerville. The Dutch winger is expected to leave West Ham, but the Premier League side value him at around €50 million. Negotiations would be complicated, especially with other English clubs also interested.
Roma have also been linked with Christos Tzolis of Club Brugge, the same club where Nicolò Tresoldi plays. Tzolis is another costly profile, with his market value estimated at around €40 million. If Roma decide to move seriously, the Friedkin ownership would likely need to act quickly and make a significant financial effort.
Another possible option is Dan Ndoye, formerly of Bologna, who already knows Serie A well. But once again, the figures would be high, and the Swiss winger is still involved at the World Cup with Switzerland.
Gian Piero Gasperini appeared calm during his latest interview with Sky, also underlining his alignment with sporting director Tony D’Amico. Still, it remains unclear how satisfied the coach is with the current market situation.
There is still plenty of time for Roma to make strong moves. The squad has not even officially gathered yet for pre-season. But the failure to land their main attacking target leaves the Giallorossi needing to move quickly and decisively if they want to give Gasperini the quality he has requested.
