Roma have identified Diego Moreira as their priority target to strengthen the left flank, with the Strasbourg wide player seen as a key profile for Gian Piero Gasperini’s system.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Moreira is one of the main names requested as Roma work to satisfy the coach’s transfer priorities. The 2004-born Belgian, currently involved at the World Cup with Belgium, was already appreciated by Gasperini and sporting director Tony D’Amico during their time at Atalanta.
Strasbourg value Moreira at around €40 million, but Roma believe there may be room to lower the asking price, helped by the player’s interest in moving to the capital. Moreira is attracted by the chance to play in the Champions League and could significantly increase his current salary, reported to be around €800,000 per season.
The main obstacle is Chelsea, who belong to the same BlueCo ownership group as Strasbourg and hold a buy-back clause on the player. However, during recent contacts between Roma and the London club over Alejandro Garnacho, it reportedly emerged that Chelsea would not oppose a move to Italy.
For now, Roma are waiting for Belgium’s World Cup campaign to end before preparing an official offer. Moreira remains one of the most important names on the Giallorossi’s market list.
