Bryan Cristante remains one of Roma’s most important figures, regardless of how many coaches have come and gone in recent years.
The midfielder is preparing to begin his ninth season with the Giallorossi and spoke to Sportweek in an exclusive interview, with the full version set to be released tomorrow.
Cristante opened up about working under Gian Piero Gasperini, highlighting the intensity and clarity of the coach’s football.
“With Gasperini, you play attacking football,” Cristante said. “You run, attack, score, and score lots of goals. It’s hard work, but it’s fun. Whether you’re English or Chinese, you immediately understand what he wants from you.”
The Roma midfielder also reflected on the importance of the Derby della Capitale, saying the message was clear from the moment he arrived in the capital.
“As soon as I landed in Rome they told me: ‘Don’t forget the derby.’ It’s a different match from the others, it’s about more than just the three points.”
Cristante also spoke about young Italian players moving abroad, saying it can help both their development and the national team.
“The more we send, the more we’ll benefit, including the national team. Going to play there opens your mind, you mature faster.”
Finally, Cristante reflected on the world of football and the path that has allowed him to build such a long spell at Roma.
“It’s beautiful, but it’s a crazy world, so I followed my own straight path: it’s the one that brought me here, and I work hard every day.”
