Remo Freuler’s FIFA World Cup campaign came to an end on Saturday night as Switzerland suffered a 3-1 extra-time defeat to Argentina in the quarter-finals.
The experienced midfielder is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Bologna, and he has recently been linked with a potential move to Roma.
Freuler is well known to Gian Piero Gasperini, having played under the Roma coach during their successful years together at Atalanta. His experience and familiarity with Gasperini’s system have made him a player of interest for the Giallorossi this summer.
Speaking after Switzerland’s elimination, Freuler addressed speculation over his next destination.
“Will you see me in Serie A again? I don’t know yet. Now that the World Cup is over, I have to decide my future.”
With his international commitments now behind him, a decision on the 34-year-old’s next club is expected in the coming weeks.
