Roma have made Crysencio Summerville their top attacking target, and negotiations are beginning to move in a positive direction.
According to TeamTalk sporting director Tony D’Amico recently held the first round of talks with the Dutch winger’s representatives. The discussions were encouraging, with Summerville reportedly lowering his initial wage demands, which had previously been around €6 million per season before the FIFA World Cup.
While that represents a significant step forward the deal is far from complete. Roma and the player’s camp still need to reach a full agreement on financial terms, and the Giallorossi have reportedly set a deadline for Summerville to provide his final decision.
Meanwhile, competition from Manchester United appears to be fading. The Premier League club, previously linked with the West Ham winger, are now expected to step back from the race.
The report suggests United’s change of plans is linked to the return of Marcus Rashford from loan, with manager Michael Carrick keen to give the England international another opportunity at Old Trafford. In addition, United would likely need to sell Rashford before funding a move for Summerville, making a deal increasingly difficult.
With Manchester United’s interest cooling, Roma could receive a major boost in their pursuit, although an agreement with both Summerville and West Ham will still be required before any transfer can be completed.
