Diego Moreira has become one of Roma’s top priorities this summer, with Gian Piero Gasperini viewing the Belgian as a player capable of solving multiple needs at once, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 20-year-old has reportedly already agreed personal terms with Roma. The proposed five-year contract is worth around €2.5 million per season plus bonuses, almost triple his current salary at Strasbourg.
Moreira’s versatility is one of the main reasons Gasperini is pushing for the deal. The Belgian can play on either wing as a wing-back or further forward as an attacking midfielder.
If Roma complete the signing and Matias Soulé remains at the club, Gasperini could settle for signing just one attacking winger instead of two.
Roma are still working to reach an agreement with Strasbourg. The Giallorossi have offered around €30 million plus a 10% sell-on clause, while the French club are holding out for €40 million. Strasbourg have lowered their demands from the €50 million they were seeking earlier in the summer.
Roma are also exploring a loan with an obligation to buy, which would delay the payment until next season. Negotiations remain ongoing as the Giallorossi look to bring one of Gasperini’s preferred targets to the capital.
