Roma are continuing to work behind the scenes on a move for Ajax winger Mika Godts with contacts between the club and the player’s representatives ongoing for the past three weeks.
According to a report from LaRoma24 sporting director Tony D’Amico considers the 2005-born Belgian one of the club’s top attacking targets this summer. Gian Piero Gasperini is also said to be a strong admirer of Godts valuing his ability to beat defenders one-on-one and make an impact in the final third.
Godts enjoyed an outstanding campaign in the Eredivisie, finishing with 17 goals and 13 assists, numbers that have attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.
Roma are hoping their early work on the deal could give them an advantage over rival suitors although negotiations with Ajax are expected to be difficult. The Dutch club view Godts as an important part of their long-term project meaning a significant offer may be required to open talks.
For now, Roma’s interest appears to be more than exploratory, with the Giallorossi continuing to push quietly as they look to strengthen Gasperini’s attack.
