Roma midfielder Manu Koné has shared an emotional message on Instagram after France’s World Cup campaign ended with a fourth-place finish.
The 24-year-old admitted the disappointment still hurts and said seeing the sadness of the French supporters was heartbreaking.
“We didn’t accomplish the mission. The days go by, but it still hurts. Seeing the disappointment in your eyes breaks my heart.”
Despite the painful ending, Koné said he was proud to have represented his country at his first World Cup and expressed his gratitude.
“I will be eternally grateful to have played in my first World Cup and to have represented France. Glory to God.”
Koné also thanked the coaching staff and everyone who worked behind the scenes throughout the tournament.
“I don’t think ‘thank you’ is a strong enough word for the coach, the staff, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to put us in the best possible conditions. We wanted to give you the best possible farewell. We also wanted to give all the France supporters a great celebration, but it wasn’t to be.”
The Roma midfielder ended his message with a vow to come back stronger.
“With pride, with faith, and with your support, we will rise again.”
