Al Hilal appeared to take a swipe at Roma while unveiling new signing Crysencio Summerville on social media following the collapse of the Giallorossi’s pursuit of the Dutch winger.
The Saudi club announced Summerville with a video on X that ended with the message: “All roads lead to… Riyadh.” The phrase is seen as a clear reference to Roma’s famous saying, “All roads lead to Rome,” and comes after the Italian club spent weeks negotiating for the player before losing out to Al Hilal’s superior financial offer.
Despite the disappointment, Roma have already turned their attention to alternative targets as sporting director Tony D’Amico continues his search for a winger suited to Gian Piero Gasperini’s system.
According to reports, Antonio Nusa remains one of the club’s preferred options. Rafael Leão is also admired, although any move for the Portuguese international would be extremely difficult. Meanwhile, Said El Mala is another name on Roma’s shortlist, but he is not currently considered a priority.
With the Summerville saga now over, Roma are expected to intensify their efforts to secure a new attacking signing before the transfer window closes.
