Roma are reflecting how to complete the squad after Rodrigo Mora

Roma accelerate transfer plans as Gasperini demands four more signings

Roma’s summer transfer window has finally begun to gather momentum after a slow and frustrating start.

The Giallorossi remain behind schedule, but sporting director Tony D’Amico and Gian Piero Gasperini are now working to address the most obvious weaknesses in the squad. Santiago Castro’s arrival represents an important step, although the Argentine striker alone will not be enough to complete Roma’s rebuild.

According to Checco Casano, Gasperini is reportedly calm and confident that the club will provide the reinforcements required to create a stronger team than last season. The objective is to build a squad capable of competing consistently at Champions League level.

Castro replaces Dovbyk in Roma’s new-look attack

Castro is expected to arrive in the capital shortly for his medical examinations, while Artem Dovbyk will move in the opposite direction and join Bologna. The double operation resolves one of Roma’s major attacking issues but does not change the club’s wider transfer strategy.

Gasperini is a strong admirer of Castro. Despite being only 21, the forward already has three seasons of Serie A experience and has featured in both the Champions League and Europa League.

His strength, intensity and desire to improve make him an ideal profile for a coach with a proven record of developing strikers. Gasperini believes Castro possesses the qualities needed to take another significant step in his career at Roma.

The Argentine will join Donyell Malen in a completely renewed attacking department. Roma have moved on from last season’s unsuccessful Dovbyk-Evan Ferguson pairing and will now rely on Malen and Castro as their principal centre-forward options.

The two attackers can also play together when required, but their arrival is not expected to produce a permanent change in formation. Gasperini will retain his preferred tactical structure rather than reshape the team around a traditional two-striker system.

Two attacking wingers remain the priority

Roma still need two attacking wingers, regardless of whether Lorenzo Pellegrini signs a new contract.

Pellegrini is viewed as a versatile option who can cover several positions, but his possible renewal would not resolve the need for greater quality and depth in wide attacking areas.

Matias Soulé and Paulo Dybala remain important members of the squad, but Roma currently lack a natural option on the left side of the attack. Finding a starting-quality left winger is therefore one of the club’s most urgent objectives.

The Giallorossi are expected to pursue two attacking additions: one capable of immediately competing for a starting position and another who can provide depth and develop under Gasperini.

Roma also need two wing-backs

The wide defensive positions must also be strengthened before the transfer window closes.

Wesley is considered a regular starter, while Devyne Rensch has shown signs of improvement. However, Gasperini still needs two more wing-backs to complete the rotation.

Roma are expected to target one established player capable of becoming an immediate starter, with Diego Moreira among the profiles under consideration. A younger and less expensive option could then be added to complete the group.

Angeliño’s future remains uncertain. Roma had hoped to receive more encouraging indications before the start of preseason, but his situation has not developed as expected and a summer departure is becoming increasingly possible.

Roma must therefore complete four significant additions over the coming weeks: two attacking wingers and two wing-backs.

That requirement could increase further should Manu Koné leave the club. Roma would immediately seek a suitable replacement for the French midfielder, although no final decision has yet been made regarding his future.
