Ivan Fresneda for Sporting Lisbon

Roma explore Iván Fresneda deal as Sporting set €25m valuation

Roma continue to assess several options for the right flank, with their interest in Sporting CP defender Iván Fresneda gaining further confirmation.

According to Matteo Moretto the Giallorossi have requested information about the cost of a possible deal for the Spanish full-back. Sporting are believed to value Fresneda at around €25 million.

The Portuguese club are not currently looking to sell the 21-year-old, which could make negotiations difficult. Roma are nevertheless monitoring the situation closely as they search for a player capable of strengthening the right side of Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad.

Fresneda remains an attractive profile because of his age, defensive qualities and potential to develop further. His ability to operate as a traditional right-back or in a more advanced wing-back role could also suit Gasperini’s system.

Roma have yet to make a formal offer and are still evaluating the overall cost of the operation. Sporting’s reluctance to part with the player means the Giallorossi may need to consider alternative targets unless the Portuguese side’s position changes.

Update from Alfredo Pedullà

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the two clubs have held three phone conversations in recent days, with Roma aware that Sporting value the Spaniard at €14-15 million plus bonuses.

While Fresneda is appreciated internally the Giallorossi are not yet ready to move forward with a deal as they continue to evaluate their limited shortlist before making a final decision.
