Roma show interest in Lyon winger Malick Fofana

Roma have added Malick Fofana to their shortlist as the club continue searching for the attacking winger requested by Gian Piero Gasperini per Giallorossi.net

According to the report, the Giallorossi have begun exploring a possible deal for the Lyon winger. Fofana is viewed as an attractive option because of his age, technical quality and significant room for development.

The 21-year-old is naturally right-footed but can operate on either flank. He is considered particularly suited to the left side of Gasperini’s attack due to his pace, close control and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations.

His profile is seen as similar to Crysencio Summerville, who Roma pursued before Al Hilal entered the race with a significantly larger financial package.

Fofana is more than a speculative name. Roma have made enquiries and opened discussions as sporting director Tony D’Amico works on several alternatives following the collapse of the Summerville deal.

The Belgian winger’s salary would be affordable for Roma. He currently earns around €2.7 million gross per season, while the Giallorossi would reportedly be prepared to offer approximately €4 million.

The main obstacle is Lyon’s valuation. The French club are asking for around €40 million, a figure Roma consider too high and will attempt to reduce during negotiations.

Fofana remains one of the warmer options under consideration as Roma look to give Gasperini another decisive and versatile player for the wide attacking positions.
