Roma continue to monitor Israel Reyes as Tony D’Amico looks to add another versatile defender to Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad.
According to Mexican newspaper Excélsior, the Giallorossi have submitted an opening offer worth around €2.5 million for the Club América defender.
The proposal was considered too low by the Mexican club, who value Reyes at approximately €7 million. Club América could reportedly lower their demand by around €1 million to help facilitate the player’s preferred move to Europe.
A significant gap remains between the two clubs, but negotiations are expected to continue over the coming days. Roma are not currently prepared to meet Club América’s full asking price and will attempt to secure more favourable terms.
The player’s desire to test himself in European football could strengthen Roma’s position during talks.
Reyes is coming off a strong World Cup with Mexico, making four appearances before remaining on the bench for the round-of-16 defeat to England.
The 26-year-old is primarily a central defender but his versatility makes him an attractive option for Gasperini. Roma view him as a useful addition to complete the defensive department, provided a deal can be reached at the right price.
