AS Roma have officially completed the permanent signing of Santiago Castro from Bologna.
The Giallorossi will pay €35 million for the Argentine striker, with Bologna also retaining a 10% interest in any future transfer. Castro has chosen the number 9 shirt previously worn by Artem Dovbyk.
The Ukrainian striker has moved in the opposite direction, joining Bologna on loan with an option to buy.
Castro shared his excitement in a message to Roma supporters on Instagram: “I’m so happy about this new beginning.” The forward added that he will give everything for the club and the city.
The 21-year-old arrives after two and a half seasons with Bologna. He made 79 Serie A appearances for the Rossoblu and scored 16 goals, establishing himself as one of the league’s most promising young strikers.
Castro also gained valuable European experience during his time at the club, featuring in both the Champions League and Europa League.
Known for his intensity, movement and willingness to press defenders, Castro provides Roma with a mobile option at centre-forward. He will join fellow Argentines Paulo Dybala and Matias Soulé in the Giallorossi attack.
The signing gives Roma another long-term attacking option as the club prepare to compete in Serie A, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia.
