Roma are attempting to move ahead of the competition for Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read with an offer worth €25 million.
The Giallorossi are working to reduce the distance with Feyenoord, who reportedly value the 20-year-old at approximately €30 million. Nottingham Forest also remain interested and continue to monitor negotiations.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Read admitted that the uncertainty surrounding his future is exciting but explained that his representatives are shielding him from most transfer discussions. Their approach allows him to concentrate on football and prepare for the new season.
The Netherlands youth international also confirmed that he would consider leaving Feyenoord if the right opportunity became available.
“If the opportunity presents itself in a place I like, then I’m ready,” Read said.
However, the defender is not actively pushing to leave Rotterdam. He believes he still has plenty to learn at Feyenoord and would be comfortable remaining at the club if no suitable transfer materialises.
Read’s immediate priority is returning to his best condition after two injury setbacks. He said he now feels physically and mentally strong, with staying fit and performing consistently his main objectives for the coming season.
A place in the senior Netherlands squad is another long-term ambition for the young full-back.
Roma remain strongly interested and hope their €25 million proposal can provide the basis for an agreement. Read’s openness to the right move is encouraging, but negotiations with Feyenoord must still be completed.
